YES WE CAN!

Time Banks UK visioning event - The way forward

Friday, 24 May 2002, 10:30am-4:00pm

Friends House, Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ

Time Banks UK has been busy in 2002 with training and regional events. These have all provided opportunities to share experiences, and to learn from each other. They have also looked at the needs of the network regionally, and developed ideas for how TBUK might grow (see the Time Banks UK regional feedback).

We now need to come together to decide what we want to see time banks achieve in the medium term.

We are living in a time that is more open to participation and community involvement.

It is also a time of great need, with growing inequalities, often fuelled by the market economy.

The need for change is a pressing issue for us all.

At all levels and in all areas - from local to global, in health, education, the environment, justice, the arts, recreation, across cultural divides and prejudices - we can use time banking:

  • to bring people together to help meet their needs
  • to reduce social isolation and dependency
  • to increase social networks and interdependency
  • to benefit the wider community.

We have a potentially world-transforming tool - time banking - that we have shown can work miracles!

YES WE CAN! will bring together key players in the time banking world and other stakeholders to:

  • Share where were at now
  • Look at directions and potential achievements for time banking over the next 5 years
  • Discuss how we can best impact in health, education, equality issues
  • Plan what to do next.

We will also discuss how Time Banks UK might integrate with a global time banking organisation.

We have time banking family in the States, China, Japan, Eastern and Central Europe, and Curaco.

In the past two months TBUK has had enquiries from Portugal, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.

Time banking is now an international movement. What part is the UK going to play in that?

Please note:

  • Places for the event are limited.
  • Lunch will not be provided - there are local places for lunch or you can bring your own

People with a strong interest and experience of time banking are welcome to attend.

Regional mentors, and coordinators/participants of active and developing time banks especially - we need your expertise, enthusiasm and passion!

If you would like to participate email [email protected] with your name, your time bank or organisation (if any), your telephone number and your postal address by Friday 26 April.

Look forward to meeting you. The venue is accessible and has facilities for the disabled.
